Bliss CBD Oil and the CNS

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the major compounds found in Hemp. Unlike THC, the other major cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, CBD is nonpsychoactive—which means it doesn’t give you the “high”. CBD is proven to assert its positive effects on the CNS allowing a person to feel relaxed minus the buzz.

How does CBD work?

Although CBD doesn’t have direct affinities to cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, it impacts different receptor-independent channels, either inhibiting or facilitating specific protein-coupled receptors and their actions.

The Serotonin System

Nuclear Receptors

Peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPARs) are classified as “nuclear receptors,” which means they are located on the surface of the cell’s nucleus. CBD asserts its action on these receptors to produce anticancer activity by stimulating a receptor known as PPAR-gamma. This triggers an anti-proliferative effect and has been shown to cause tumors to regress in cases of lung cancer.

CBD as an Anandamide Reuptake Inhibitor

Researches show that CBD in the brain impedes the reuptake and breakdown of Anandamide- a major cannabinoid that the human body produces and an extremely powerful, THC-like chemical in the brain.

This increases endocannabinoid levels in the brain’s synapses producing neuroprotective action against seizures and other problems. More interestingly, Anandamide is also called the “bliss molecule,” aptly named after ananda, the Sanskrit word for “joy, bliss, or happiness.”
