The application of CBD in the world of health and fitness has been evolving over the years, thanks to numerous research studies, thousands of testimonials to its favourable effects, and media’s role in spreading so much information about its uses, and benefits if applied correctly.

CBD is short for Cannabidiol, one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the plant Cannabis sativa, or what’s known to many as the hemp or cannabis plant. A major component of hemp, CBD is very different from THC because it’s not psychoactive which means you can never get high from its use.

In just a few years since its launch into mainstream health, for many people CBD has become a major aspect of their well-being routine.

Even Health practitioners are now recommending CBD for the treatment of ailments such as general anxiety, insomnia, arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions. This phenomenal compound has also found its way into skincare products due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties.

Do you know that more and more people are turning to CBD products like CBD oil for anxiety, depression, and pain management?  Studies continue to discover how this compound works to effectively calm the nerves and relieve pain. Researchers found that CBD essentially regulates the Endocannabinoids System in our body, which in turn, is responsible for maintaining the body’s homeostasis.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

It is one of the most current and exciting findings in the scientific community. The ECS regulates a range of physiological processes such as restfulness and sleep, thermoregulation, appetite, immune response, specific inflammatory effects, gastro-intestinal functions and cognitive work. In plain words, the endocannabinoid system is vital to maintain balance in the body for it to function properly.

It is important to know that our body produces cannabinoids in a natural process. These endocannabinoids are namely, anandamide and 2-AG. Chemically, they share a similar structure to exogenous cannabinoids derived from plants such as Cannabidiol or CBD. Both endogenous and exogenous cannabinoids exert their effects on CB1 and CB2 receptors, two G protein-coupled proteins that are located in our brain, immune system, the gut, muscles, skin- almost everywhere in the body. For example, anandamide plays a role in the regulation of feeding behavior, and the neural generation of motivation and pleasure.

How Does CBD Affect the Endocannabinoid System?

The effects that CBD has on your ECS is very different from other phytocannabinoids like THC. CBD works by attaching to these receptors to modify their ability to bind with other cannabinoids like Anandamide and 2-AG. The implications? This means that CBD can help maximize the effects or benefits of our body’s endocannabinoids.

Conclusion. Given its beneficial effects to keep the body in homeostasis, there is no known negative effects of CBD on our brain and body when it interacts with the Endocannabinoid system. As scientific studies have demonstrate, the use of CBD is unlikely to become a habit or an addiction. This means that people who take it wouldn’t really have the urge or craving that they need to use CBD in order feel better.
